Filmmaking 101 for grades 4–5 (Spring'26)

$375.00

Intro to Filmmaking 101 is a fun, creative introduction to the world of movies and storytelling—designed especially for 4th and 5th graders who are curious about how films are made.

In this 10-week, hands-on course, students will explore filmmaking through games, creative challenges, and simple projects. They’ll learn how stories come to life on screen while experimenting with cameras, sound, acting, and editing in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Students will discover each step of the filmmaking process:

  • Story & Ideas – Students will brainstorm fun story ideas, create characters, and learn how to turn imagination into short film concepts using drawings and simple scripts.

  • Camera & Sound Basics – Students will learn how to use a camera, frame shots, record sound, and work both behind and in front of the camera. They’ll experiment with different types of shots and learn how visuals help tell a story.

  • Editing & Creativity – Students will be introduced to basic editing tools to put their scenes together, add music or sound effects, and see how editing can change the feeling of a story.

  • Teamwork & Roles – Students will take turns being directors, camera operators, actors, and editors, learning how to collaborate and bring ideas to life as a team.

  • Final Film Showcase – At the end of the course, students will share their original short films in a South Mountain Film Academy screening for families and friends.

By the end of Film 101, students will have created their own short films, gained confidence, and discovered what they love most about filmmaking. No prior experience is required—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to try something new.

Tuesdays from April 7–June 9, 2026, 4:00 PM–5:15 PM

Grades: 4th, 5th

No experience necessary! It’s also OK to repeat this course—each session will create a unique project, with new ways to develop and sharpen filmmaking skills.
