Turn funny ideas into original short films! In this hands-on class, students will create comedy scenes, fake commercials, sketches, and visual gags while learning the basics of filmmaking. They’ll explore scriptwriting, camera angles, framing, lighting, sound recording, and editing—and discover how timing, setup, escalation, surprise, and payoff make a joke work on screen.
Working together behind and in front of the camera, students will develop characters, plan shots, and bring their ideas to life. The class will culminate in a 5–7 minute comedy film or a series of connected sketches to share at a final screening. No filmmaking or acting experience needed—just imagination and a willingness to experiment!
Mondays from Jan 11–Mar 29, 2027, 6:00 PM–7:15 PM
No class Jan 18, Feb 15
Grades: 7th, 8th
No experience necessary! It’s also OK to repeat this course—each session will create a unique project, with new ways to develop and sharpen filmmaking skills.
